Propulsid Lawsuits

Propulsid is a heartburn medication approved in 1993 only for severe nighttime heartburn experienced by adult patients with gastroesophageal reflux disease. Around thirty million Americans used Propulsid prior to its March 2000 withdrawal. Cardiac problems had been associated to Propulsid early on and the FDA strengthened the drug's label for Propulsid a couple times before finally removing it from the market. The label changes were intended to emphasize Propulsid's risk factors.

At the time of the Propulsid recall the drug had been associated with 341 reports of heart rhythm abnormalities, including 80 reports of deaths. This is including only reported adverse effects before December 31, 1999.
